Club Championships
The 2007 Club Championships held over the weekend 1st and 2nd of September turned out to be an exciting event. Leaders overnight were, both gross and handicap in the Ladies budding starlet Laura Watkins and in the men’s event Shaun Curtis was leading the gross with a 76 and Dave Billington the handicap with a nett 69.
The second day saw some outstanding scores. J Umney with a nett 63, A McKeran a nett 66, and Dave Billington with a nett 69 for the second day running, losing out for the handicap title by just one shot from young Aiden McKeran. Tom Heasley put up a valiant defence of his title recording a nett 67 on day two to finish 4th.
On day two young Laura Watkins was in unstoppable form yet again and collected both the Ladies scratch and handicap titles, this to add to her recent
Ping regional pairs wins with Vicky Shepherd.
Onto the Men’s Club Championship. Simon Hickman, lying sixth overnight recorded the lowest score of the weekend with a level par 72 in blustery conditions to finish 5 shots clear of second place Tim Horn. A remarkable feat for Simon as he was involved in a serious car accident last year where he suffered a broken collar bone and only returned to playing golf properly a few weeks ago.
The Ox
This years Ox competition was another resounding victory for Bicester Country Club. It is the fourth time in a row that the trophy has returned to the club. A much closer contest after the first two rounds with less than 100 points separating the three clubs, but home advantage won the day and Bicester eventually won comfortably. A big thank you to all who took part and did their bit for the club, we have a great attitude at the club in these and all matches and I know all who take part give it their very best.
